We no longer scan mail for viruses

When we switched to our new server two weeks ago, I unfortunately forgot to turn on content filtering. All the mail we received since the beginning of February has therefore not been scanned for viruses or signs of being spam. I am very sorry for this.

I have now re-enabled our spam filter, so the Viagra offers that make it through our greylisting barrier will now be correctly marked. However, we have decided that we will no longer be running the virus scanner, because:

- Our virus scanner (ClamAV) just isn't all that great
- In the eight years we have been running our mail server, I don't think we ever received mail that tested positive for viruses

If you are concerned about the possibility of getting viruses in your mail, please keep your antivirus software up to date and remember not to open email attachments if you aren't sure about their origin.
